The best thing about Calico, one of Tokyo's very first cat cafes, is that there are plenty of cats to go around - some 24 at last count. Perhaps because of the high cat-to-human ratio, the cats here seem more relaxed and more pettable than average. There's a nice mix of exotic and more common breeds, most of them very photogenic.

Our most recent visit happened to coincide with feeding time (around 5:30pm), and there was quite a build-up of tension in the air as the staff made elaborate preparations, as some of the cats were on a special diet and needed to be moved to a different room.

Drinks here are optional, and cat snacks are available for Y300. The snacks are strips of boiled chicken breast, and they proved to be popular with the cats even directly after their regular dinnertime.
